Coach Dave Raffield (from Cy Falls) takes over the Tiger program in 2011 following the departure of Coach Jim Slaughter.  Under Slaughter, Consolidated compiled an 80-45 record. Before Slaughter, Coach Ross Rogers led the Tigers on a fantastic run from 1989-1993 in which they won a state championship in 1991, played in three state finals, made four state semifinal appearances, and won 22 playoff games.  In 2011, the Tigers will be competing for their seventh straight playoff appearance.

SCHEDULE

8/26 vs Klein Oak

Oak was one of two losses for the Tigers last season. This will be a tough early test with the Tigers in transition and an experienced Oak team coming to town.

9/2 @ Cy Woods

The Tigers’ new coach will be familiar with the opponent and surroundings for this one. Raffield’s Cy Falls defeated Woods early last season.

10/21 @ Copperas Cove

A&M clinched the 12-5A title last season with a 14 point win over Cove. The rushing talents of Thomas and Hamilton versus DLs Bynum and Gilbert will be a battle to watch.

2011 Schedule:
8/26 vs Klein Oak
9/2 @ Cy Woods
9/9 @ Austin Westlake
9/16 Open
*9/24 vs Temple
*9/29 @ Killeen Ellison
*10/7 @ Bryan
*10/14 vs Killeen Shoemaker
*10/21 @ Copperas Cove
*10/28 vs Killeen Harker Heights
*11/4 @ Belton

THE BOTTOM LINE

Offense: The Tigers are changing from the run-heavy Wing-T offense to a more balanced Spread attack. The first order of business is to find the personnel to fit that scheme and the Tigers feel like returning starting quarterback Jacob Bronowski can do more than just hand the ball off.  However, the Tigers are returning a 14 yards per carry back in Quinton White, so they’d be smart to get him the ball as much as possible.  The next order of business is to get your offensive linemen comfortable with the new blocking schemes. Cameron Cermin (6’6 290) and all-district Dillon Smith (6’2 240) will be counted upon to lead the way.

Defense: The Tigers were young and took some lumps defensively last season, but should be much improved with seven starters returning.  The highlight of this group will be the defensive line, where two FBS recruits in all-state JJ Bynum (Texas Tech commit) and junior Jimmie Gilbert (6’5 200 4.6) return. Along with Gilbert, junior LB Ben Kennedy was all-district as a sophomore.  These guys will be crucial against the rushing attacks of Klein Oak (Baratti & Fatu) and Copperas Cove (Thomas & Hamilton).

Overrated if: The offensive and defensive transitions under the new coaching staff doesn’t click in year one.

Underrated if: Quarterback Jacob Bronowski thrives in the new offense.  The effectiveness of the spread will start and end with the quarterback.
